DIY FAUX ENAMEL FLOWER POTS

It all started with a trip to the Walmart gardening center. I spotted these cute white enamel flower pots sitting on a shelf across the garden area and I headed straight for them. I figured they would be out of my price range but I grabbed one up anyway. They were $24.99. Yep, out of my price range.

As I stood there pouting, I remembered that I had just purchased some square tubs at the Dollartree to do some organizing. Creative juices began to flow. I grabbed my shopping cart and headed to the spray paint aisle. I grabbed a can of white spray paint and a can of black spray paint, both said suitable for plastic.

A couple of hours later, I had my beautiful pots.

I forgot to take a picture before I began but this is the bin I used. Of course, you may be lucky and already have some bins around your house.

Before you start, turn the tub over and drill a few holes in the bottom. I drilled for in my bins.

I wanted the same look as the flower tub at Walmart so I painted the top rim black and then sprayed the inside of the bin black. (I only painted down to the handles since I knew the soil would cover the rest) I did not want to see the green tub color once I had my plants in the pot.

If you paint the top trim a different color, you will need to cover it so it does not get painted when you paint the bottom. DO NOT USE TAPE. It will peel the paint off! Use something like foil or saran wrap. It can not be anything that will adhere to the paint. I would also give the top paint at least an hour to dry before covering with anything.

Foil is covering the top rim in this photo making it easy to paint.

I only used on coat of paint for the black trip and the white base making this an inexpensive project.

Once the white paint has dried enough to handle, you can remove the foil.

NOTE: These will scratch up easily but will hold up to outdoor weather. I would try to use paint that states it is for use on plastic products.

The tubs were $1.00 each and the paint was less than $8.00 for the black and white combined. Since I only used one coat of paint, there was a lot left over so this is an inexpensive way to get the look you want.
